The Rancho Oso Stables are among the few PUBLIC riding stables on the Central Coast. Standard and Custom horseback rides are available year-round, with or without an overnight stay.

Beginners are always welcome. If the kids have outgrown the "Pony Rides", maybe it's time to take them on a REAL HORSEBACK RIDE at the Rancho Oso Stables? Maybe Mom or Dad rode horses when they were younger? Young or old, experienced or not, practically everyone can ride a horse. Riders for our guided trail rides must be at least 8 years old. Hand-lead rides for children 7 and under are also available. All riders receive personalized attention and instruction from our friendly Wranglers. Safety equipment is provided. Our sure-footed horses are gentle enough for beginners, so take advantage of this opportunity to try one of America's favorite sports under safe, supervised conditions.

Trail Ride Reservations

Rancho Oso Stables offers guided trail rides on safe, gentle horses, suitable for beginners. Minimum age for trail ride is 8.

Rancho Oso Loop: (Approx. 1 hr) Suitable for ages 8 and up, ride around our historic 300 acre property, including Chumash artifacts, oak-shaded trails, and river and mountain views.

Arroyo Burro Road OR Upper Oso Trail: (2 hrs) Ride across the Santa Ynez River and up into the mountains or on mostly flat, single-track trails to Upper Oso and back.

Aliso Loop Trail: (3 hrs) Ride up and over Sage Hill to incredible views of the Santa Ynez River Valley.

Hand-Led Ride: Call for availability Suitable for ages 3-8, a ride on a “big horse” down the road and back with one of our friendly wranglers leading the horse. This is a great first experience for a youngster and a terrific “photo op”!

• Please arrive 1/2 hour before your scheduled ride.
